Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you visit cdavidmoreland.com, how that information may be used, and the outside services that help operate this website.
This website is operated under the name C. David Moreland.
Questions about this policy or information you have provided through the site may be sent through the Contact page or by email at cdavidmoreland@cdavidmoreland.com.
Information You Choose to Provide
Contact Form
If you use the Contact form, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, and message.
That information is used to read and respond to your message and for ordinary correspondence and recordkeeping. It is not added to the newsletter mailing list merely because you contacted the site.
The Contact form uses WPForms Lite. WPForms states that its Lite version does not use its normal user-identification cookies and does not collect the additional IP address and browser/device information described in its GDPR enhancement settings.
Form messages may be transmitted and retained through the site’s hosting and email services for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to the message and maintain ordinary correspondence.
Newsletter and Email Updates
If you choose to subscribe to email updates, we collect your email address and any other information you voluntarily provide through the newsletter signup form.
The newsletter signup requires affirmative consent before submission. Subscribers may unsubscribe at any time.
Newsletter subscriber information is synchronized with Hostinger Reach, which is used to maintain the mailing list and send occasional updates about books, stories, essays, blog posts, and related work. Hostinger Reach supports automatic synchronization of subscribers from connected WordPress forms and recommends adding only contacts who have given explicit marketing consent.
The ordinary Contact form is not intended to enroll visitors in the newsletter.
We do not sell or rent the newsletter subscriber list.
Cookies and Privacy Choices
This site uses WPConsent to display a privacy and cookie notice and allow visitors to make choices about optional cookies and tracking technologies.
Visitors may accept, reject, or manage their preferences and may reopen the privacy-settings control later to change those choices.
The site also uses the WP Consent API, which provides a standardized way for compatible WordPress plugins to communicate a visitor’s consent choices.
The site is configured on an opt-in basis for nonessential tracking. WPConsent describes this model as starting optional consent categories in a denied state until the visitor makes a choice.
Necessary cookies or storage used for security and basic website operation may still function regardless of optional analytics choices.
Google Site Kit and Google Analytics
This website uses Site Kit by Google to connect the site with:
- Google Search Console
- Google Analytics
- PageSpeed Insights
Google Analytics is used to understand how visitors find and use the site. It may process website-use information such as page views, traffic sources, device/browser information, and interactions with website content. Site Kit’s Enhanced Measurement can also measure interactions such as file downloads, form completions, and video activity.
Logged-in WordPress users are excluded from Analytics measurement through the site’s Site Kit configuration.
Google Consent Mode
Google Consent Mode is enabled through Site Kit and works with the site’s consent-management system.
Consent Mode changes how Google tags behave according to a visitor’s privacy choices. In regions where prior consent is required, Google Analytics tracking is restricted until the appropriate consent has been given. When consent is denied, analytics cookies are not stored.
Depending on the applicable consent configuration, Google services may still receive limited, cookieless signals before consent rather than ordinary cookie-based analytics information. WPConsent describes this as restricted or cookieless operation under Google Consent Mode.
WPConsent recognizes when Site Kit is providing the Google Consent Mode implementation and avoids creating a duplicate default consent signal.
Visitors may use the site’s privacy-settings control to change their consent choices.
Cloudflare Turnstile
This website uses Cloudflare Turnstile to help protect forms from spam, bots, and automated submissions.
Turnstile evaluates technical signals associated with a browser or device to determine whether a submission appears legitimate. The site uses Turnstile in Invisible mode, meaning the security check normally operates in the background rather than requiring a visible puzzle.
Cloudflare requires sites using Invisible Turnstile to reference its Turnstile Privacy Addendum in their privacy policies.
When you put this on the website, make “Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Addendum” a clickable link to Cloudflare’s current addendum.
Jetpack and Automattic
This website uses selected features of Jetpack, a service operated by Automattic.
The Jetpack features currently used include:
- Account Protection
- Brute Force Attack Protection
- Downtime Monitoring
Jetpack’s privacy practices vary according to which features are enabled.
Security Features
Jetpack Brute Force Protection may process information related to attempted logins, including IP address, attempted username or email address, user agent, and IP-related HTTP headers. Failed login-attempt information may be synchronized with Jetpack to identify and block malicious activity.
Account Protection may perform additional security checks when someone attempts to log in using credentials that appear to have been compromised in a known data breach.
Downtime Monitoring
Jetpack Downtime Monitoring checks the website periodically to determine whether it remains available and may notify the site administrator when downtime is detected. Jetpack currently describes its monitoring service as checking approximately every five minutes.
Jetpack Related Posts analyzes post content, categories, and tags using WordPress.com systems to identify related material. Jetpack states that the Related Posts feature does not use visitor information to generate those recommendations.
The site does not use Jetpack’s newsletter system for its mailing list; newsletter subscriptions are managed through Hostinger Reach.
Website Performance and QUIC.cloud
This website uses LiteSpeed Cache for performance optimization.
Certain performance functions use QUIC.cloud, including generation of Critical CSS used to improve the loading and rendering of website pages. LiteSpeed documents that its asynchronous CSS feature uses QUIC.cloud’s Page Optimization service to generate Critical CSS.
QUIC.cloud states that when CSS optimization services are used, site CSS may be transmitted to its servers for processing and returned to the website. QUIC.cloud states that these optimization services involve site/server data rather than visitor data, and temporary copies of optimized CSS are deleted according to its retention practices.
QUIC.cloud’s CDN is not necessarily required for these optimization services and should not be assumed to be in use merely because Critical CSS is enabled.
Hosting and Email
The website and related email services are hosted or supported by Hostinger.
Hostinger may process account, server, technical, security, and communications information as necessary to provide website hosting, email, and related services.
Hostinger Reach is separately used to maintain the site’s newsletter subscriber list and email-marketing functions.
Comments
Keep this section only if comments are enabled on your posts. If comments are turned off everywhere, delete this entire section.
If visitors leave comments, the website may collect the information shown in the comment form together with technical information used for administration and spam protection.
Comment information and associated metadata may be retained so that comments can be displayed and moderated and follow-up comments can be recognized.
If a service such as Gravatar or another third-party comment feature is used, that service may process information according to its own privacy policy.
Embedded Content From Other Websites
Articles or pages may include embedded content such as videos, images, documents, or other material provided by third-party websites.
Embedded content may behave in substantially the same way as if you visited the third-party website directly. Those providers may collect information, use cookies or similar technologies, or measure your interaction with their content according to their own policies.
Your choices in the site’s consent system may affect whether certain nonessential third-party content or tracking technologies are permitted to operate.
